If there's rust what is a good way to fix? Sand it down? I have some stuff I bought that's in a blue bottle that turns the rust kinda white looking and supposedly makes it paintable, any thoughts on this? I'm thinking of using your method to paint and old truck I'm fixing up to drive, I keep getting quotes from $4000 to $7000 to paint it, I just wanna drive it and have it look nice, not show it at World of Wheels ya know.

In my opinion, it is best to grind/sand the rust away, then bondo , then primer, then paint the area. It has been my experience that the "rust converter" products create a plasticoat type of seal, but that the seal is not at all permanent.
It does take a bit longer to grind/bondo/primer/paint, but not a whole lot longer -- especially if the rust does come back.
