8-10 coats!! HELL, thats a of a lot of paint! celly reduced 1:1 rolls on with a 4" high dens foam roller and two coats is more than enough to take a 1200, 1500 and 2000 cloursand, also celly can be colour matched to the rest of your vehicle so you dont have to repaint the whole darn thing. yes, the paint/ thinners themselves are more expensive at the outlay stage, but i'm not painting the whole car only the areas I need to so i'm probably gonna break even eventually!!

I just tried this and got a ton of bubbles, they would pop and then it would run down the side of the car. Luckily I jus tried one panel and was able to wipe off the paint with a rag. I tried pressing hard and light and nothing helped. I ended up using paint gun anyway. Is there a particular brand of foam roller that works well?

Hey, just a question. Why couldnt you just spray the rustoleum or brightside paint on and avoid having to master the roller + brush method?? seems like you would still gain the benefit of the cheap paint but not have to worry about brush marks??????

1) Will this paint work on Fiberglass autos (corvette)? 2) will it work on todays rubber bumpers, does it stick and not crack due to flexible properties of these bumpers? 3) has anyone in southern California done this, would love to see results in person. Thanks.

I live on the coast of NY. It is damp here. I am wondering what to do with this method if you can not put the vehicle in a garage. I understand this sounds like adumb question, but I really need to save the finish on my '73 ford before it gets any worse. the roof is sun - faded. There are rust bubbles and surface rust all over the place. I have only a driveway to work with and ??? weeks of summer weather. NY is muggy + rainy at times. Is this method impossible for me?
spray is not an option in my neighborhood nor painting skills. This ford is a very cool-hip sporty e-100 short body van.
Any advise?

The hi humidity may work well to your advantage, allowing the paint time to settle out before it dries. There have been others that have done this outside, on a non windy day, the paint gets sanded down so any imperfections should be sanded out. Visit the listed forums and search. Good Luck.

I'm painting my car with this method right now. Wasted 4 foam rollers already on lots of work on my test piece figuring out that you have to really wring the roller out or it will go on too thick. And not dry properly because of it.
I will return here and post my findings as I feel this page is one of the better resources on this .
